- -- NEW: Victim had come forward in 2005 and again in June 2008
- -- Report: Suspect denied raping daughter but was arrested after DNA confirmation
- -- Man was arrested in February on charges of rape and incest, court clerk says
- -- Victim, three children taken to a safe house
The man, in his 60s, began the abuse in the 1970s when the daughter was 11 and continued almost daily until 2007, said the Herald Sun newspaper, which first reported the case.
Lisa Neville, Victoria's minister for community services, said her agency is investigating."As a parent, this is just a horrific and appalling story,"
Well YEAH! If anyone didn't find it 'horrific and appalling'... Mental. Further into the reading, they report similiar cases to the report... Really? Don't tell me this is going to become some pandemic issue, and all the mothers will weep for the lack of safety for their daughters and all men will be hated!
The case has created a stir in the country, with many comparing it to that of Josef Fritzl, the 73-year-old Austrian man who kept his daughter imprisoned in a basement for 24 years and fathered seven children with her.
Local media outlets have also compared it to the recent case of Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was kidnapped from South Lake Tahoe in California at age 11, kept a prisoner for 18 years, and bore two children with her captor.
(Feminist, time to strike! Just like what you guys did with prohobition! Wait, what?).
I reiterate, what is wrong with this millennium?! And here we have:
The alleged victim's mother told the newspaper she was unaware of the abuse, despite living in the same house.
"We lived in a big house, so I wouldn't have known," she said.
REALLY?! NO SIZE OF A HOUSE SHOULD KEEP YOU FROM NOTICING THAT YOUR DAUGHTER'S SAFETY HAS BEEN BREACHED BY THE MAN YOU MARRIED!!!!!!!
We're talking about a timeline of 2070-2009... That's almost a 40 year gap! That father must have been one sneaky son of a b**ch to avoid any suspicion from the mother.
A million facepalms to that. Granted that I want the Australian father to burn on a stake alive, the mother's inability to notice such a dreadful situation to even occur in the house she lives in is AMAZING (in the most stupidest way). The neglect of the mother should not go unpunished... The daughter's fear really got the best of her, as any victim of rape should be. Their fear of losing their safety, dignity, and life. We, a society as a whole, need to band together to keep occurrences like this from happening.
- -- Reestablish/strengthen values
- -- No leniency to criminal acts such as incest or rape (regardless of age)
- -- Offer better aid to victims of said crime
- -- Use media as means to intimidate and scare rapist, criminals, sex offenders
- -- Promote lethal self defense
- -- Swords (kidding, kidding).
Just a few opinions about what we, as individuals, SHOULD be doing to help anyone in need. I am only one voice, so it'd be nice to see some changes within the global community that are for the better, because we're definitely in living in a era that's heading towards a bleak future.
And we wonder why men are hated sometimes right?

The comment "How does one measure something like value, ethics, and common sense? Honestly, you can't" has some veracity to it. Who gives a government official, a doctor or a minister the right to determine and measure the value of someone's life? What is the universal standard for ethics? What are the standards that people go by? Is there an objective standard, or is it relative?
ReplyDeleteI think the problem also lies within determining what the 'universal' standard is. We have all these social norms to follow, but then we have individualistic norms/ideals/values that's going to conflict with everything else.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's always going to be a problem to measure intangible concepts and ideals. Honestly, I don't think the people you stated shouldn't have any right to measure people's lives, it would just be natural sense to save someone in dire need or in terrible health.
(Granted I did say I wanted the father to burn at a stake).
I know it might sound like i'm trying not to take a solid stand (haha sorry), but I'd like to think that there's a median to having both objective and relative standards.
